A Contemporary Home in Lake Como

lake como home living room

Sitting on the edge of the hillside on the edge of Dizzasco, near Lake Como, this house takes inspiration from the age-old buildings in the surrounding area, as well as traditional Japanese tea houses.

The house was designed by architect Lorenzo Guzzini who was influenced by both the physical architecture and ceremonial use of the tea houses. From the outside the build is simple and low-lying, covered in smooth permeable concrete, featuring a pointed slanted roof positioned to allow light and warmth from the sun into the interior come winter, and provide shade in summer.

Inside, the layout is symmetrical with a sunken lounge area at the focal point, complete with wood burning stove. The materials are kept neutral throughout, with raw concrete covering the walls and large grey tiles making up the flooring.

The ceilings are made up of pine boards – a nice reference to the woodland location – while black steel-framed glass sliding doors add a contemporary touch, as well as allowing for more light throughout the space and opening out into the surrounding garden.
