Five Songs to Add to Your Playlist this Autumn/Winter
From modern jazz to Belgium’s answer to Kendrick Lamar, these are the songs that are forming our soundtrack to the new season, and should probably be on yours too.
The final track from Washington’s latest EP Harmony of Difference epitomises the complex, maximalist approach of its author who developed the track from five separate songs he was originally working on. Infused with warm gospel power, blasts of emotion, and melodies that ebb and flow throughout its 13-minute spell, “Truth” offers an insight into one of jazz’s finest modern practitioners.

Ever since he first announced himself to the industry as a bright-eyed 17-year-old in 2011, Englishman Archy Marshall or King Krule has remained difficult to pin down both in terms of personality and musical style. Fusing together elements of punk jazz, blues, trip hop and dub, his latest single from new album The Ooz revels in the dark, elusive elements of his musical style to deliver a track that intrigues and excites.

Based in Brussels, Krisy started making music with friends in the Belgian capital in 2010 out of a passion for the art. Since then, he has produced Gold-certified records in France for artists such as Damso, produced his own concept project album in the form of a romantic-comedic musical, and then in 2017 released his own debut studio album. Dubbed “the Belgian Kendrick Lamar” for his eclectic musical style and versatility, Krisy is possibly the most exciting Belgian musical export of this decade.

Since releasing their first studio album in July last year, HONNE have swiftly emerged as one of the most exciting electronic acts working in the UK today. The London-based duo have carved out their own deep, chilled take on electronic music, and this vibe was taken to a new level on recent single “Just Dance” when British producer Salute got his hands on it. Known for his fusing of R&B, soul, and house, Salute transforms the original into something completely fresh.

The latest single from Aaron Maine’s synth-pop project veers away from the impressive electronic sophistication of 2016’s Pool towards a subtle, stirring sound in new single “Country”. The track is charged with Maine’s signature melancholic falsetto and also features Blood Orange a.k.a Dev Hynes on backing vocals. Hynes and Maine also co-direct the Lynchian video for the song which is also worth checking out.
