Kengo Kuma Timber Clad Building
Kengo Kuma and Associates create buildings like no other, shying away from harsh materials such as concrete and instead opting for a more natural approach, with the majority of their work made from wood.
One of their most recent projects, with the University of Tokyo, has taken it to the next level. The entirety of the Daiwa Ubiquitous Computing Research Building has been covered in seemingly undulating wooden tiles, leaving gaps only to let in light through the river-like glass windows.
Taking a step away from the standard university architecture seen all over the globe, this building offers a more natural environment both inside and out, as well as combining the two with a wooden clad tunnel leading from the street to the Japanese garden at the rear of the building.
