AW20 Men’s Fashion Trend Report
Men's Fashion Month kicked off the year in serious sartorial style, with the world's finest menswear designers showcasing their new season collections to delight your wardrobe come AW20. From London to Milan, we saw menswear designers step up their corduroy game, loving leather looks and proving the revival of the 90's puffer is here to stay. So for the 411 on all men's fashion trends soon to be filling your feed, take a look at our AW20 menswear trend report.
#1 Classic Corduroy
Designers were channelling Granddad chic vibes at the AW20 men's shows as we saw corduroy return to the runway. With pants, blazers and jackets in classic beige, we also saw pops of lilac and green transitioning into autumn winter from the SS20 shows. We saw stand out corduroy from Acne and Todd Snyder in particular who showcased their two piece looks for maximum impact.
#2 Cardigans
Another staple from your Granddad's wardrobe, cardigans in all shapes and sizes were heavily featured in the AW20 men's runways. From classic long line button up cardigans to cropped sleeveless colour block cardys. Everyone from Loewe to Hermes finished off their looks with a trusty cardigan that Kurt Cobain would be proud of.
#3 Checks
A trend that will most definitely stand the test of time, check variations in mostly jackets and pants were on display from almost every designer across Fashion Month. Proving that it's the print that keeps on giving, designers gave us options to keep it classic, like the black and white houndstooth check at Lanvin, or make more of a statement like the check clash displayed at Comme Des Garcons. The styling options are endless!
#4 Leather
A real stand out trend seen throughout Men's Fashion Month was the inclusion of leather looks. Luxury leather is timeless and easily integrated into your everyday wardrobe for a distinctive edge to your look. Particularly seen in pants and trench style jackets, leather pieces were updated with pops of colour. Gucci's green metallic leather pants were a favourite of ours paired with matching tones on top and classic loafers.
AW20 Fashion Trend Report
Straight from the runways of fashion month, the womenswear AW20 trends are varied and exciting. Here are the top trends you should be investing in.
#5 Monochrome Looks
Tonal dressing has always been a luxury trend to note, but the runways of AW20 stepped it up with exciting new silhouettes. Integrating other AW20 trends like the utilitarian waistcoats and structured shoulders from Jacquemus, the monochrome looks communicated a softness through their sandy palettes.
#6 Technical and Quilted Fabrics
Men's Fashion Month was filled with loose-fitting tailored pants in not only traditional fabrics but also technical and quilted fabrics. Both Nicholas Daley and Todd Snyder proved that quilted fabrics aren't only for jackets, showcasing the look on both scarfs and pants for functionality as well as style. While Acne reinvented salopettes for the street as well as the slopes.
#7 Utility
A trend that's effortlessly transitioned from the runways of SS20 is utilitarian style. The SS20 shows gave us a whole lot of combat pockets and oversized cargo pants, and in addition to this we're now seeing utility vests and belted jackets return to the scene for more uniform style. Not only practical but a saving grace when it comes to styling, pair with jumpers, t-shirts or roll necks, the possibilities are endless. From the oversized leather vests at Martine Rose to the quilted vests at Nicholas Daley we don't see this trend going anywhere anytime soon.
#8 Shearling
A contemporary classic, shearling coats were a big trend on the runways with a variety of styles on show. From the more traditional aviator style jackets at Tod's to a vinyl coated shearling duffle coat at Prada. With a 70's inspired style, shearling coats came in the form of long line oversized jackets as well as shorter styles like the ones displayed at Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton.
#9 Puffer
In addition to the long line puffer coat trend of AW19, this season we have shorter style options to also choose from. Proving that functionality is just as much a priority as fashion. Both Jacquemus and Acne showcased their head to toe monochrome puffer looks whilst MSGM and Sacai proved that the 90's inspired long line puffer is here to stay.
#10 XXL Bags
As we see the teeny tiny bag trend continue to dominate in womenswear, quite the contrary is happening over in the menswear game. A multitude of menswear designers sent their models down the runway clutching XXL holdalls and briefcase inspired bags. Adding some sophistication to your look, Louis Vuitton and Hermes kept it classic while Acne opted for an oversized over the shoulder brown tote to match the head to toe brown vinyl look.
