Copenhagen Fashion Week: Baum und Pferdgarten SS17
The Baum und Pferdgarten SS17 show took place in Copenhagen’s Vognmagergade, where the brand’s flagship store was draped in pale pink bubble wrap – yet another indication of the colour the Danes are opting for next spring/summer.
Since 1999, founders Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave have been creating seasonal collections that marry masculine and feminine shapes, and innovative, experimental design, with the brand gaining a cult following in Scandinavia and around the world.
For SS17 the designers stuck to their signature aesthetic, applying it a collection made up of pieces inspired by the late ‘70s/early ‘80s. Models made their way down the runway with dewy skin and hair in bouncy waves; fitting in with the theme of fashion’s surge towards old-school femininity this season.
There was a distinct preppy style running through this collection, paired with those aforementioned late ‘70s/early ‘80s designs; pink lurex knits edged in frills came worn with tailored sports trousers and check print bum bags, suit jackets came complete with crest and were worn on top of pussy bow blouses, and the designers created their own Copenhagen branded polo shirts and dresses.
Baum und Pferdgarten is a brand that likes to mix things up a bit, clashing prints, shapes and experimenting with different styles. This was the same here, with sheer feminine skirts teamed up with lurex striped knee-high socks and sports jackets, prints layered upon prints (stripes and checks being the most stand-out combination) and floaty lemon-yellow dresses worn on top of knitted striped trousers.
