Copenhagen Fashion Week: H by Jesper Høvring AW17
At Copenhagen Fashion Week the runways are awash with experimental, slightly undone, grungy style where the models wear layers on layers and hair is is just on the right side of unkempt. It focuses on the street wear, in other words, but Danish designer Jesper Høvring showed us a different side to Denmark's fashion this season.
Høvring has been creating haute couture-style dresses for Denmark's most prominent women since the early 2000s, taking inspiration from the likes of Christian Dior to produce formal evening wear that harks back to its 1950s heyday. H by Jesper Høvring is the ready-to-wear alternative for those who need their couture to go, still with the designer's signature tailoring and glamour, but slightly more wearable and relaxed.
The Hy by Jesper Høvring collection was made up of black lace, dark green velvet and rich mustard, ranging from full gowns to loose-fitting suits. The best looks came in the form of high-waisted trousers with frill-back shirts tucked in - referencing the '70s but in a completely contemporary way - and long but loose and flowing dresses, cut just so to the body and with subtle details that made them a modern classic.
