London Fashion Week: J. JS Lee AW16

Jackie Lee is quite possibly the reigning queen of British minimalism. The London-based, South Korean-born designer’s eponymous label has been renowned for its grown up (but never boring) sensibility ever since she graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2010. The J. JS Lee AW16 collection carried on in this vein, with an added element of British Victoriana (frilled, high necklines) and her South Korean background (black, red and hanbok-inspired wrap jackets).

This was loose tailoring at its finest – from canary yellow coats and high-necked dresses, to high-waisted trousers belted over contrasting shirts and long satin jumpsuits that came with asymmetric seams.

J. JS Lee also gave us a lesson in layering this season. Shirts were tucked into high-waisted skirts, which in turn were worn over slim-fitting trousers; sleeveless jackets came over tunics; and belts wrapped up trench coats found draped over two-piece suits.
