London Fashion Week: John Smedley SS16
Tucked away in the Hus Gallery in central London was the John Smedley SS16 presentation, a selection of just a few impeccably curated looks. The collection stuck to just three colours; white, glass and sloe, offering a spectrum of colours that together made up a beautifully balanced palette.
John Smedley is known for its incredible knitwear, and this collection showed exactly why the brand is still going strong after 230 years. The pieces were simple but the attention to detail was second to none, with the quality adding even more elegance to each design.
Every look was kept in a single shade, while each piece was designed to be layered. White draped tunics were worn over loose knitted trousers; long length jumpers over skirts and trousers were belted around the waist, creating interesting obi belt-inspired ties at the back. That was possibly the best part of the collection; those hidden unexpected details seen in wrapping, gathering, draping and split hems. A minimalist, wearable collection in light knits – perfect for the British summer.
