Preen by Thornton Bregazzi SS19 Show Report
As always at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, florals, ruffles and delicate layering prevailed to present the idyllic influence for the collection. With support from The Royal Horticultural Society and drawing influence from classic novels including Jon Karkauer’s ‘Into the Wild’, Angus Fraser’s ‘The Gypsies’ as well as the ‘Oxford Atlas of the World’, SS19 sees Preen telling the tales of Gypsy’s gone by. With a large vardo overflowing with wild flowers and waiter’s serving coffee from authentic China crockery, the scene was set from the get go.
With hair slicked and fresh faced make up, large satin sheets hung limp from the ceiling, structuring the runway. Models emerged from behind the curtains in similarly delicate gowns, accented with ruffled tulle. With a colour palette of gold, through vibrant orange, sherbet green and cobalt blue, each style clung in perfect harmony. A delicate repeat floral print was a heavy feature, with clashing prints in multiple colourways as another. A nod to gypsy influence saw diamond check in sequin fabric layered with bold puffed silk sleeves and one sided shoulder pads.
Delicate pink silk pieces accompanied stronger shades patterened with traditional florals. A one armed layered ruffle dress in delicate mesh lace appeared in three shades; pale green, pink and ice blue, followed by silhouettes with heavy shoulder pads in neutral shades to end the collection.
