Restaurant Cofoco, Copenhagen
Over the past couple of decades Danish food has enjoyed a real renaissance, leading the way in the New Nordic cuisine trend. It’s not just two-Michelin-star restaurant Noma (named Best Restaurant in the World four times over) that’s worth a visit either; the whole city is teeming with cafés and restaurants serving up impeccable food, drink and atmosphere.
One such place is Restaurant Cofoco in the Vesterbro district. Established in 2004, this small and unassuming restaurant has that minimalist, refined design that only the Scandinavians can do; light, bright bare walls, industrial pendant lighting, wood and copper seating and a simple outdoor eating area set the scene for what’s to come from the food – stylish, understated, yet incredibly well executed.
The menu is one that is carefully edited, only serving up a selection of (generous) starter-sized portions of fresh Danish produce with a French and Southern European twist – think steak tartare served with tartar sauce rather than raw egg, melt-in-the-mouth steak and fresh seasonal vegetables.
Restaurant Cofoco can be found at Abel Cathrines Gade 7, 1654 København V. It is open Monday to Saturday, 5.30pm-12am, and bookings can be made via their
