Founded in 2002 by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki (former Daft Punk manager and architect respectively), Parisian record and fashion label Maison Kitsuné has long been a staple part of our collection here at Coggles. The brand’s Filles du Calvalre flagship and Kitsuné Café are already essential visits on any trip to Paris, and late last year the brand unveiled its brand-new New York City flagship boutique at the heart of downtown SoHo. We take a snoop around the cult brand’s shiny new shop floor and pick out our selection from the SS18 collection.

Located in downtown New York at 248 Lafayette Street, Maison Kitsuné co-founders Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki teamed up with French designer Mathieu Lehanneur to create their new home. The light-filled space is designed to give a minimalist luxury vibe, with white walls accented by marble and raw concrete details (not dissimilar to our own new flagship store). The distinguishing feature, however, is undoubtedly the store’s floor-to-ceiling, iridescent metallic rails that snake through the store to form clothes rails, furniture stands and lighting fixtures.

The story of Maison Kitsuné is a story of links: the links between France and Japan and those between fashion and music... Maison Kitsuné's new flagship store in New York materialises these connections throughout the space.

The floor-to-ceiling metallic tubes are the nucleus of the artistic concept, boasting sleek curves and an iridescent finish, while also functionally serving as a multi-purpose base for fixtures, lighting, and of course delicately handing Maison Kitsuné’s collections.

Mathieu Lehanneur, Interior Designer

Designed as a home away from home for the French minimalists, the brand looks set to continue its heritage blend of music and fashion in New York. In addition to its everyday retail life, the store is set to host some of the brand’s after-hours parties plus music-focused “experimental programming” sessions. Be sure to pay a visit to 248 Lafayette Street for your dose of fashion, music and interior inspiration if you’re ever passing through the city.
