11 Howard, New York
SoHo: the fashionable New York City district instantly recognisable by its cast-iron fire escapes lining the sides of its tall, industrial buildings, contemporary art galleries and some of the most eclectic stores in Manhattan. It’s also home to some of the best bars and restaurants, making it one of the best places to stop in the city.
The new place to stay? 11 Howard, where a no-nonsense New York attitude meets Danish minimalism and at the heart of its ethos lies social consciousness. 11 Howard epitomises the new kind of luxury; the kind that is discreet and unimposing yet always there in the background, never leaving the guest wanting.
As for the interior, the design comes from the hotel’s creative director Anda Andrei of Anda Andrei Design, and Space Copenhagen, the design studio behind the interior of Noma. The result is a timeless and light space where functionality is as important as form, and custom artworks pay homage to the district’s artistic history.
The bedrooms are all pale oak floors, soft colours and mid-century furnishings which create a calming and soothing escape from the city below, while public spaces are slightly more daring, with dark walls combined with plush velvet seating and a nod to SoHo’s industrial past.
