London’s Best Outdoor Cinemas

This summer, forget a darkened room; the only way to watch a film is in the great outdoors. Make the most of the weather, the Big Smoke's many unique locations and the screens popping up all over the city with our guide to London's best outdoor cinemas – from the travelling boat to the rooftop and everywhere in between.

Movies on the River movies on the river

What better way to enjoy a cult classic than sailing along the Thames? Movies on the River takes ticket-holders on a sunset cruise from the Tower of London, the open-air top deck showing off the sights of the city with seemingly endless supplies of food and drink to aid the experience. As for the films on offer, expect a collection of favourites - The Big Lebowski, Clueless, When Harry Met Sally and newcomer La La Land among them. Currently, Movies on the River is only on until mid July but there are more dates  yet to be confirmed. Visit its website for more information.

The Luna Cinemaluna cinema

The Luna Cinema takes classic films to some of the most beautiful and iconic locations in and around London. This is a cinema that allows you to enjoy a great location in a completely unique way - from Brockwell Lido (where a premium ticket gets you a seat in a dinghy in the pool) and Blenheim Palace to the Sky Garden at the top of the Walkie Talkie and Kensington Palace. To see more, visit the Luna Cinema website.

The Nomadthe nomad

A roaming pop-up cinema, the Nomad shows films all over London, from Psycho at Grosvenor Square to Breakfast at Tiffany's at Festival Gardens, St Paul's Cathedral and Cinema Paradiso at Queen's Park. Plus, all proceeds go to charity. To find out more, go to the Nomad website.

Somerset House is the epitome of old-school London charm, and there’s nowhere better than its courtyard to watch iconic films and cult classics. It’s only running from 10-23 August in 2017, with a film running every night so book early to avoid disappointment. More information can be found at the Somerset House website.

Rooftop Film ClubRooftop-Cinema-Club-2

It seems the only place to be in London at the moment is on one of its many rooftops. It was only a matter of time before cinema got there too, and Rooftop Film Club does exactly what it says on the tin. With locations in Peckham, Kensington, Stratford, and Shoreditch, there’s a film to be enjoyed on rooftops around the city. Go to the Rooftop Film Club website to see more.
