An Introduction to The Volon
“It is the total of what one individual wants, so our brand strives to satisfy the very core of an individual’s needs.” Explaining the ethos behind her brand The Volon, Eujung Jang relates back to French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “le volonté de tous”, which translates to “the will of all.” “I want my bags to reflect many different individuals and their personal styles. That, above all else, is our philosophy.”
Launching The Volon in 2013, EJ never thought she’d be a bag designer. But with a clear-cut confidence in her own ability to understand and visualise elements of pure beauty, it’s apparent that she was always destined to create. Working from a small atelier in Seoul with a background in interiors and architecture, EJ takes her inspiration from the strong lines of cityscapes, the lighting of Gio Ponti and artwork from Cecily Brown and George Condo.
Last month saw The Volon truly take off with every street style star from London to New York sporting a piece from the latest collection. SS18 without a doubt shines through as the most playful collection to emerge from the brand so far. Whilst still in-keeping with the original architectural roots, the brand has chosen to incorporate new, statement hardware in the form of letterbox clasps and thick silver chained straps. Leather fringing encircles the Box Tassel Bag whilst pink tassles colour-clash, providing that perfect mix of style and eccentricity. If that wasn't enough, once opened, each of the box bags feature a welt pocket and small mirror on the underside of the bag's roof - perfect for those touch ups on the go.
A fan of maximalist fashion and all things fluffy, you can find me layering prints or looking for new earrings. A disco queen at heart, if I'm not dancing around the house to 70s soul, I'm counting my flares.
