London Fashion Week: John Smedley AW16
This season’s John Smedley collection was all about ‘The Artistry of Knit’, focusing on what the British heritage brand does best: impeccably crafted knitwear. It was all about the quality and the detail, with luxury finishes doing all the talking in the subtle, simple separates.
The John Smedley AW16 collection was made up of three tonal colours; black, burgundy and dove grey, creating the perfect moody autumnal colour palette. The clothes themselves were quite possibly all of the knitted pieces you could want in your wardrobe; rib knit trousers, oversized roll neck jumpers, sleeveless tunics, midi dresses and chunky cardigans for wrapping up in.
The minimal, slightly masculine aesthetic was offset with feminine touches found in the use of drapery and stitch pattern work, with each piece designed to layer with the next. A look we’re very much on board with for next season.
