Ultra Violet: Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2018
Now that January is over we’re more than ready to embrace Spring, and alongside the incoming launch of our SS18 collection at Coggles, we hone in some focus on the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018 – Ultra Violet.
The overarching trend for the coming season lies with Neo-Nostalgia, for the clothing itself this refers to re-imagination of traditional shapes using breath-taking hues to break rules with clashing contrasts. For the wearer, this means a strong sense of self understanding in styling, avoiding the feeling of similarity to others through a definitive amalgamation of streetwear, vintage tailored silhouettes whilst holding on to activewear influence, with bold floral inspired colours defining a true resort flavour.
Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.
Having often been associated with mindfulness practices, musical icons Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix brought the colour to the forefront of western pop culture in-tune with expressing individuality, inadvertently offering refuge to those seeking escape today’s over-stimulated world. This year the chosen shade falls in-line not only with trends in the design world, but with that of philosophical, political and social issues with underpin today’s society.
