The Diner, Camden
Not all great food has to sit under the 'fine dining' umbrella. Here at Coggles we love the finer things in life but many of the foods we love, crave and even dream about tends to be the kind of thing that snobs and nutritionists alike would turn their noses up at. Does that mean the food in question tastes any less incredible? Of course not. In fact, quite the opposite!
The Diner in Camden is a perfect example of this simple truth. With it's fun fifties style American diner interiors and a classic menu it is admittedly stereotypical, but in the best possible way. What food transcends barriers as successfully as the humble burger we ask you? None. Plus you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere that makes such excellent American fare this side of the Atlantic either. Situated right next to the iconic Camden Markets, The Diner makes the perfect rest-stop for any hungry shopper.
You'll also be surprised by how many types of foods fall under the Americana banner. Burgers, hot dogs, tacos, all day breakfasts, mac & cheese, meat loaf, ribs, chicken wings, fries (in a whole variety of manners), corn dogs, fried shrimp and of course, all can be washed down with a good ol' milkshake. Or, if you're feel you need some dutch courage to bargain at the market stalls, there's always one of the many cocktails on offer. Don't even get us started on the dessert menu, which lists Apple Chimichangas amongst other things. We didn't get chance to try this dish personally, but if it's as fun to eat as it is to say we'll give it a big thumbs up from us. One can justify all those excellent calories with the fact that all burgers are made using the finest Scotch Chuck steak which is ground daily too. We love the Philly Cheese Steak, featuring strips of flank steak, smoky onions, green peppers, mushrooms, diner cheese sauce and spicy coleslaw on a hoagie roll.
Live in London but don't want to make the trip? There's also Diner branches in Soho, Covent Garden, Shoreditch, Spitalfields, Islington and Gloucester Road.
