Watermelon and Strawberry Smoothie
As the weather gets warmer, now’s the time to start weaning off the coffee and go for a lighter, healthier boost instead. This watermelon and strawberry smoothie – originally found on
The high levels of vitamin C found in watermelon protect the body from harmful free radicals that can accelerate ageing, and it’s also a source of potassium. Watermelon is high in Vitamin A too, which boosts immunity and eye health, while vitamin B6 found in the fruit aids the immune system and helps the body to break down proteins (good if you eat a lot of meat).
The other main ingredient is strawberries, which are full of vitamin C, antioxidants and potassium – plus they’re known for increasing good cholesterol and lowering blood pressure.
To make two smoothies, blend a quarter of a watermelon and a handful of frozen strawberries – adding a few more to taste. Finish off with a few fresh mint leaves and you’ve got a cooling drink for summer that’s full of nutrients.
