Drake Devonshire Hotel, Ontario
Following the success of
An old iron foundry on the shores of the lake, the Devonshire is full of history and has been stylishly restored. Wooden beams, steel accents and an eclectic mix of prints and shades of blue and green echo the hotel’s location and surrounding farmhouses of the area, while the use of custom furniture, vintage pieces and accessories from local artisans bring sleek urban style to the space.
There are just 13 rooms in this hotel, giving it an intimate feel. The rooms all come in different shapes and sizes, meaning there’s something for everyone, but the most impressive is the Owner’s Suite. With a full glass wall facing the lake, the suite has a large private patio, custom-designed furniture and a roaring fireplace.
Full of beaches, wineries and fast becoming a foodie destination, Prince Edward County is the perfect Canadian weekend destination, away from the city. The Drake Devonshire takes full advantage of its location, offering help with many of the activities available in the area.
That’s if you can tear yourself away from the hotel, of course. Just like the Toronto original, the Devonshire loves its art, boasting an impressive permanent collection and rotating exhibits from local and international artists – all reflecting what the hotel and its experience is all about. The hotel also frequently hosts artist talks, performances and other events, from movie and comedy nights, to yoga in the waterfront pavilion.
The food is impeccable too. Head chef Matt DeMille has created a farm and lake-to-table menu for the Devonshire’s restaurant, paired with local wine and served with a side of uninterrupted views across the lake. After dinner, head to the lakeside fire pit to complete your country getaway.
